TENNIS TEAMS SCORE ROAD WINS AT NEWBERRY; WOMEN BLANK WOLVES 9-0 WHILE MEN ESCAPE 5-4

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Both Pfeiffer University tennis teams scored victories on Saturday afternoon at Newberry College as the women shutout the Wolves 9-0 while the men escaped with a 5-4 win. After Saturday, the women stand at 2-2 on the year while the men remain unbeaten at 3-0.

On the women’s side, Pfeiffer as a team lost just one of the 16 sets played in South Carolina as Alena Krutkina and Cari Hopson rolling in singles play with straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins.

On the men’s side, Pfeiffer trailed 2-1 after doubles play and went on to secure four points in singles for the narrow win. Philip Lawson and Johan de Wit notched the doubles point while Lawson won a three-set match at #1 singles. The bottom three on Saturday came through for the Falcons as Ben Hunter, Luis Villalta and Stephen Tyndel were victorious in the 4-6 matches.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon traveling to Belmont Abbey for the 2011 Conference Carolinas opener. Both match times are set for 2:00 p.m.
