MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s “A” team leads after day one of the 2011 Old North State Invitational firing a round of 307 to lead three other squads by 14 strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round. The Falcons Tyson Louth, competing on Pfeiffer’s “B” team, leads all individuals with a first round 73 at the 7,102-yard, par 72 Old North State Club. Conditions on Monday were very windy with gusts up to 30mph.
Behind Louth, Pfeiffer’s Chadd Marburger finished one stroke back carding a 74. Louth scored 37 on the front, 36 on the back while Marburger went 36-38.
Casey Komline, competing as an individual from Appalachian State finished third after the first 18 with a 75. Will Ferrell of Mars Hill and Curtis Brotherton of High Point concluded T-4 with a pair of 76’s. Out of 55 golfers, High Point’s D.J. Dougherty (T-6) played the only under par nine of the day dropping a 35 on the front side.
The par-4 15th became the hardest hole on Monday averaging 5.05 strokes for the day. The first hole, a par-5, 536 yard layout, was the easiest of the day averaging 5.13 strokes. The field carded 78 birdies for the day with three eagles.
Tuesday’s final round will begin at 10:00 a.m. with tee times off the first and tenth holes.
