Pfeiffer responded for the first time in the third as a two-out single by Eric Shoemaker (Huntersville, NC) put the hosts on the board trailing 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons put their first crooked number on the board with a four-spot to grab a 5-3 advantage. Kevin Price (Asheville, NC) started the frame with a one-out solo blast to right before Mike Green (Brandon, FL) tied it with his single to right. Cotton tied it in the top of the fifth with a two-run laser to left for his second round-tripper of the day before the Pioneers added three more in the seventh to grab another three-run lead. Trey Drewery (Vale, NC) would collect the first of his two clutch two-run singles on the day in the seventh, before Rolondo Bonner (Garner, NC) pushed the advantage to four with a run-scoring single in the eighth.
Pfeiffer forced extra innings with four more in the bottom of the eighth as a pair of Tusculum errors aided in the second Falcon comeback of the day. Pinch-hitter Matt Wade (Chapel Hill, NC) came around, after leading off with a double, on a fielding error committed later in the stanza out in left field. Lyon continued the frame with a sacrifice fly to left while Shoemaker added a RBI-double to left-center. Hunter Boehme (Winston-Salem, NC) finished the comeback with a RBI groundout to third for a 9-9 game through regulation.
In the tenth, a pair of two-out, two-run singles put the Pioneers ahead for good as pinch-hitter Cody Coffman (Cape Coral, FL) and Drewery collected the crucial hits allowing Tusculum to escape with the 13-9 win. The four tenth-inning runs completed an afternoon where the Pioneers scored 10 of their 13 runs with two outs.
Cotton paced the Pioneers with three hits on the day, two leaving the yard, while Colon, Bonner, Drewery and Branfy Arias (La Romana, Dominican Republic) each had two.
