MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University softball took a pair of wins over visiting Fayetteville State University on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Falcons scored a 9-1, five-inning win in the opener while blanking the Broncos 7-0 in the nightcap. Pfeiffer now moves to 9-9 on the year while the Broncos fall to 6-6.
In game one, Pfeiffer exploded for seven runs in the first as Sarah Waylock (Cary, IL) blasted off with a three-run shot. Celia Dew (Sanford, NC) started with a RBI-single to center while Mikaela Strickland (Bonifay, FL) doubled home Shelby Brown (South Hill, VA) and Hannah Jackson (Greensboro, NC).
Pfeiffer added another run in the second as a Jackson sacrifice fly plated Waylock from third while the Broncos avoided a four-and-a-half inning loss as Maya Washington homered to left for an 8-1 contest. The Lady Falcons ended things quickly a half-inning later as Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) drew a bases-loaded walk to end game one.
In the nightcap, Rachel LaBar (Bradenton, FL) opened up the third with a double, later scoring on a pair of Fayetteville State wild pitches. Doubles by Braswell and LaBar again in the fourth capped off a three-run frame. Braswell would homer to lead-off the sixth while Conklin added a two-run blast for the final pair of runs.
Braswell and Conklin combined on a one-hitter in the night cap as April Branch had a first inning double for the Broncos lone hit.
Pfeiffer will be back in action on Saturday traveling to Queens for a first-place showdown with the Royals at 12:00 p.m.
