MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Eight solid innings of work by Austin Campbell helped Pfeiffer University take a 3-2 victory over visiting Mars Hill College in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons improve to 12-11 overall while the Lions drop to 10-13. Wednesday return game at Mars Hill has already been postponed due to incoming weather. No make-up date has been announced.
Jacob Yates put the first run on the board in the fifth with a RBI-single that scored Hunter Boehme from second. Kevin Price would scoot to third on Yates’ single, later scoring in the frame on a sacrifice-fly to right off the bat of Matt Wade.
Mars Hill tallied a run just a half-inning later slicing the deficit in half at 2-1. Christian Diaz would score from third on a passed ball with one out as he started the Mars Hill sixth with a base hit. After Pfeiffer took a 3-1 lead in the seventh as Price would score on the return passed ball by the Lions, Mars Hill made it a one-run game with Michael Brittain’s sac-fly in the eighth.
The Lions would threaten in the ninth with the tying-run in scoring position, but Falcon closer Luke Wilhelm got a strikeout and fly out to center preserving the win. Price led the Falcons at the plate with two hits and two runs scored while Dalton Hardee had three hits for Mars Hill.
