HIGH POINT, N.C. - Pfeiffer University’s Melanie Conklin continues to demolish the school record books being selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third-consecutive time during week number six in the 2011 season. The junior hurler put together a 2-1 week in the circle that included three complete games and one shutout racking up a league win at Erskine as Pfeiffer University continues to hold the top spot in Conference Carolinas.
Conklin started the week with 12 strikeouts in a complete game, last-second loss to Newberry. On Saturday at Erskine, Conklin again went the distance allowing just one run on five hits with 10 more strikeouts in the 3-1 league victory. On Sunday against Lander, Conklin delivered another complete game, this one via shutout, scattering just four hits in the win. Conklin finished the week with 14 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched equaling three complete games.
On the year, Conklin has a slim 1.59 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 66 innings of work with seven complete games holding opponents to a league-best .168 batting average. This is the third consecutive week this year Conklin has received this award, repeating the honor from week four and week five. Pfeiffer is currently 13-13 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
