HIGH POINT, N.C. - Pfeiffer University’s Philip Lawson has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's tennis Player of the Week during week number six in the 2011 season. The junior went 3-1 overall this week as the Falcon team scored a 7-2 win over Carson-Newman and fell 7-0 at division one Gardner-Webb.
Against the Eagles, Lawson rolled with partner Johan de Wit in No. 1 doubles 8-2, before Lawson notched an individual point 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. On Saturday at GWU, Lawson and de Wit scored a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles, but Pfeiffer lost out on the overall team point dropping the other two doubles contests. In singles, Lawson suffered a tough 7-5, 6-3 loss at No. 1 singles with Gardner-Webb. Lawson is 7-1 in doubles with a 2-0 league play mark, and 5-3 in singles with a 2-0 conference play record. Pfeiffer currently stands at 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
