MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The 2011-2012 athletic season for Pfeiffer University will officially begin on Thursday, September 1st as Lady Falcon soccer hosts Newberry at 4:00 p.m. Men's Soccer, Women's Volleyball and Men/Women's Cross Country have all released their fall schedules for 2011.
The season opener against the Wolves marks five-straight and eight of their first nine games at home for Pfeiffer. Newberry, UNC-Pembroke, Lenoir-Rhyne and Belmont Abbey are the first four out of the gate making for one of the toughest opening slates in division two. Conference newcomers King and North Greenville appear on the schedule for first-time match ups as the Lady Falcons head to King in Bristol, TN on October 15th during fall break while North Greenville visits Pfeiffer on October 25th. 11 of Pfeiffer's 18 regular season games will be played at N.E. Men's Soccer will also open up 2011 with a brutal stretch of openers heading to Morrow, GA for tilts against USC-Aiken and Clayton State, before hosting Francis Marion in the home opener on September 7th. The Falcons were winless in three attempts (0-2-1) against the Peach Belt Conference last season. In conference, Pfeiffer will host reigning league champs Lees-McRae on homecoming weekend September 24th while hosting Queens in the regular-season finale on October 29th. Women's Volleyball will being 2011 at the Queens Invitational in Charlotte after hosting Shangxi University in China for an exhibition match on August 27th at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Falcons will host rival Catawba in the home opener on September 6th before traveling to USC-Aiken for a weekend tournament on September 9-10. With divisions beginning this season in Conference Carolinas, Pfeiffer (in the East) will face Barton, Mount Olive, Coker, Queens and St. Andrews twice (home and home) while facing west division opponents just once. The long distance runners of Men and Women's Cross Country have seven meets on the current 2011 slate beginning at Guilford College on September 3rd. After trips to UNC-Wilmington and UNC-Pembroke, Pfeiffer will head to their annual appearance at the Hagan Stone Classic in Greensboro on the first of October. Anderson and Wingate will each hold meets in early October before the Conference Carolinas meet on October 21st in Charlotte.
