BALANCED ATTACK LEADS USC-AIKEN PAST MEN'S SOCCER 4-1 IN '11 OPENER

MORROW, G.A. – A pair of goals in the first and second halves by USC-Aiken sent the Pacers to a 4-1 season opening win on Friday in night one of the Laker Classic hosted by Clayton State. The Pacers outshot the Falcons 24-8 in the match with a 7-2 advantage in corners.

The Pacers immediately put the Falcons behind the eight ball with the season’s first goal just 46 seconds in as Scott Newby found the back of the net with a shot from the left side of the penalty box. Steven Campbell assisted on Newby’s first of the year. Later on in the 19th minute, Newby turned around to assist on Troy Watson’s strike clanking his first in off the right post.

Pfeiffer managed just three shots on goal in the first half as Fahret Salihovic, Kyle Toler and Aldo Ramirez each fired a shot with the first two Falcons putting their on cage. The Pacers delivered 10 shots in the opening 45 minutes and took all three corner kicks.

The Falcons found themselves down three on the hour as Chinedu Arinze struck off an Edmund Eastick corner kick. Pfeiffer got on the board in the 79 minute as Jermaine Hibbert sent a right cross over to Ethan Sacco who put it away to cut the lead to 3-1. Watson would slam home his second of the night with just 2:15 to go after taking the ball away from a Falcon defense down the right side.

The Falcons will be back in action at the Laker Classic on Saturday night taking on host Clayton State at 7:30 p.m. Live stats will be available, courtesy of Clayton State, via http://www.gofalconsports.com.
