DOUBLES SWEEP LEADS MEN'S TENNIS TO 8-1 SEASON OPENING WIN OVER GUILFORD

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University men’s tennis team opened up the 2011-2012 campaign with an 8-1 victory over Guilford College in non-conference tennis action on Wednesday at the Knapp Tennis Center. It marked the season opener for both squads.

Pfeiffer swept through all three doubles matches, but it wasn’t easy. Ben Hunter/Sebastian Wernecke and Luis Villalta/Ethon Lyon needed 9-7 wins at one and two doubles in front of Bret Williams/Mark Henry’s 8-6 win at number three.

In singles, Henry was the only one who needed three sets to pull out the point with a 10-4 win in the third. Villalta didn’t drop a single game in his victory while Lyon lost only one.

The Falcons return to the court on Tuesday heading to Catawba for a 3:00 p.m. with the Indians at the Johnson Tennis Center.
