GREENSBORO, N.C. - By placing their top four runners in the top twenty, the Pfeiffer women’s cross country team claimed the NCAA title in Saturday’s Hagan Stone XC Invitational in Greensboro. The overall individual winner, Duke Track Club’s Anne Martin, ran a 19:29 over the 5k course. Lady Falcon senior Kaitlyn Mullis was the first Division II runner to cross the line, running a 20:38 to come in eleventh place.
Close behind Mullis were freshmen Justine Serje in thirteenth place, with a 20:49, and Megan Hunsucker, clocking in at 20:52 to place fifteenth. Junior Vlada Mouravieva crossed the line ten seconds later, placing nineteenth. Fellow junior Rachel Biggerstaff returned to competition after several weeks of illness, running a 23:41 and completing the team’s scoring top five. Sophomore Nina Ubabuike (24:25) and junior April Hinson (25:32) rounded out the Lady Falcons for the day.
The Pfeiffer men’s team placed second amongst Division II competition, beating out by St. Andrews by twenty-six points. Catawba College’s Christian Crifasi ran a 26:34 to win the individual title in the 8k race.
Junior Will Oliver ran a personal best of 28:05, leading the Falcons and placing twentieth. Sophomore Josh Roberts was the second runner for the team with a 29:45, followed by freshman Jeff McClure. Sophomores Trey Sharpe (30:04) and Cody Bivens (30:11) finished the team’s scoring. Not far behind was junior Zack Allen (30:33), sophomore Cody Jones (30:54) and sophomore Fred Travis (33:01) finishing the day out for the team.
The Falcons travel to Winston-Salem State for their third straight week of racing and their final race before heading into Conference Carolinas competition later this month.
