WILSON, N.C. - Less than 24 hours after completing a season-best comeback at Mount Olive, Pfeiffer University fell flat on Wednesday night during a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-18) sweep by Barton College at the Wilson Gymnasium. The Bulldogs improve to 9-12 overall, 5-8 in league play while the Lady Falcons dip to 8-11, 5-7.
Pfeiffer had healthy leads in sets one and three before Barton comebacks led to the sweep. Melissa Cochran put down a match-high 19 kills in the win followed by Kati Wood's 10. The Bulldogs hit .304 against a tired Lady Falcon defense.
Erin Gray paced Pfeiffer with a team-high eight kills on the night while Kim Amerell and Kelsey Blauser each had a half-dozen. Cate Glendenning put up 30 assists and also had a team-high nine digs.
Pfeiffer will now take the rest of fall break off before returning to Conference Carolinas action next Friday and Saturday at Converse and Erskine. The Lady Falcons have five league contests remaining in 2011 hoping to grab home court advantage in at-least the first round of the conference tournament.
