MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė In a Saturday afternoon meet with Lenoir-Rhyne and Converse, Pfeiffer University claimed the top spot on the menís side and second on the womenís at the Merner Pool. The Falcon men defeated the Bears 154-105 while the Lady Falcons split with a 148-113 win over Lenoir-Rhyne and 156-105 loss to Converse.
The afternoon started with a menís victory in the 200-yard medley relay as Mark Franz, Matt Burns, Andrew Corley and George Moreno topped the ĎAí team from Lenoir-Rhyne by just over a second. In the following event, the womenís 1,000 freestyle, Samantha Maness put up a time of 11:30 for a second place finish. Vicky Miller followed with a runner-up touch in the 200 free at 2:05.30 while Kim Benton did the same in the 100 backstroke missing out on first by just .44 seconds.
Elijah Bohon and Robert Skinner would follow with a 1-2 finish in the menís 100 backstroke before Jillian Kniffen got in on the action with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. For the men, Burns and Corley tallied back-to-back first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 200 fly while Moreno followed suit in the 50 free.
Moreno would make it two-straight in the 100 free just minutes later while Yukina Onoda scored her first individual win of the season in the 200 back. Bohon, along with Jim Roddenbery, registered wins in the 200 back and breaststroke in front of Corley and Bohon racked up another victory each in the 100 fly and 400 individual medley to start wrapping up the afternoon.
Both Pfeiffer ĎAí teams notched wins in the 200 freestyle relay to finish the day as Randi Bryden, Benton, Miller and Kniffen beat out Converse by just .36 seconds while the menís quartet of Lucas Signor, Bohon, Franz and Moreno topped the Bears by .98 seconds.
Both teams will be back in action next weekend for the three-day, Wingate Fall Frenzy held in Charlotte at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (MCAC).
