HICKORY, N.C. – A 16-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome on Saturday as Pfeiffer University fell 85-53 to Mars Hill College in the final day of the 2011 Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. The Lions outscored the Lady Falcons by 16 in each half to even at 1-1 on the young season while Pfeiffer drops to 0-2.
Mars Hill shot a whopping 60% from the field in the win while holding the Lady Falcons to just 29%. Kristin Metcalf led the Lions with a game-high 16 points as one of four players in double figures. Ansley Ricker and Armeka Booker each had 14 while Danielle Tucker posted 10. Tucker finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
Pfeiffer was led by Shelley Reese scored a dozen points followed by 11 from Vontreece Hayes. Hayes provided the Lady Falcons lone bright spot putting Pfeiffer up 5-4 early just 2:15 into the contest before Mars Hill took over from there.
