MEN'S VOLLEYBALL REMAINS PERFECT IN LEAGUE PLAY WITH 3-1 WIN OVER LIMESTONE

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Pfeiffer University hit just under .300 at .297 while holding Limestone College to hitting at a .110 clip during a 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20) victory in NCAA I Conference Carolinas menís volleyball action inside the Merner Gym on Wednesday night. The Falcons run their winning streak to six-straight improving to 6-1 on the year, remaining perfect in league play at 4-0. The Saints see their brief two-game win streak come to an end dropping to 5-3, 2-1.

Back-to-back kills early on by David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) and Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) jump started Pfeiffer to an eventual 9-3 lead in set one. Limestone would get to within three at 16-13 on a kill from Derek Daley (Reading, PA) and Falcon error before Konstantin Weise (Berlin, GERMANY) and Quentin Moore (Richmond, VA) put down kills for a 19-13 advantage. Three Limestone errors would aid the Falcons late as the hosts took a 25-18 set one win.

Set two came down to the end as Pfeiffer held a 20-17 lead after another Brophy kill and attack error by the Saints. Leading 22-19, Curtis Van Grinsven (Canyon Country, CA) would bring it to 22-20 on one of his five kills before Limestoneís blocking delivered three-straight solo blocks to swing the momentum 23-22 in favor of the Saints. James Dorr (Spokane, WA), Daley and Scott Warren (Manhattan Beach, CA) each came up with huge stuffs as Dorr would later put down the decisive kill to even the match at one apiece.

In the third, each team went back-and-forth early on until a kill by David Frazee (West Palm Beach, FL) put the Falcons up 8-7 as the hosts would not fall behind for the rest of the set. Three miscues by the Falcons midway through the frame would keep Limestone hanging around until a Specian ace would help deliver the final blow leading to an 18-15 advantage. Frazee and Weise would pick up the setís final kills for Pfeiffer putting them up in the match 2-1.

Trailing 18-17 in the fourth, Moore would deliver his final kill of the night to tie it 18-18 before a string of three-straight Limestone attack errors led to a 22-19 Pfeiffer lead. Three points away from the match, Weise would deliver a monster kill in front of Brophyís final put down before ending the match on an ace down the line to help keep the Falcons perfect in league play.

Moore led all attackers with a match-high 15 kills hitting .393 in the win while Frazee had the best hitting percentage of the night with a match-best .636 mark (8-1-11). Specian assisted 50 times in the four-setter while Brophy and Moore each ended with a match-high nine digs.

Limestone was led by Warren and Kevin Hartís (Menifee, CA) nine kills while Andrew Pile (Macungie, PA) handed out 26 assists. The Saints did out-block the Falcons 14-9 on the night while being hampered overall by 43 errors.

Pfeiffer will remain in league play on Saturday traveling to Lees-McRae for a Conference Carolinas matchup with the Bobcats. The action will begin at 2:00 p.m. with live stats and video being available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
