HICKORY, N.C. - Nationally ninth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University used one swing in game one and 10 hits in game two to sweep Pfeiffer University 2-0 and 9-0 (6) in non-conference softball action at Bears Field on Monday. The Bears improve to 10-2 on the year while the Lady Falcons drop to 2-4.
Lenoir-Rhyne needed just one pitch in the third to grab the win. After Marie Mauhar drew a one out walk, lead-off hitter Jody Mizelle cranked a two-out, two-run blast to left for the game's only runs. Pfeiffer managed just two hits in the game one loss with a Hannah Jackson triple in the first and a Kirsten Patterson lead-off single in the seventh. Melanie Conklin suffered the tough-luck loss in the circle surrendering the two runs on just two hits while striking out 12.
Carlee Carpenter would go 2-for-4 in game two with five RBI to lead the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne scored two runs in the second, third and fourth before finishing with three in the sixth. Ashlee Ellen collected two of the three Lady Falcon hits in game two while Celia Dew had the other.
