SOFTBALL SPLITS LEAGUE OPENING DH AT ST. ANDREWS; RETURN HOME SUNDAY FOR CARSON-NEWMAN TWINBILL

LAURINBURG, N.C. - Pfeiffer University split a pair of Conference Carolinas softball games at St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon falling in game one 6-5 before bouncing back for a 6-2 win in game two. The Lady Falcons end the day 3-7 overall, 1-1 in league play while the Knights move to 5-11, 1-3.

For the third-straight game, the Lady Falcons fell in the home team's final at-bat as St. Andrews plated two in the bottom of the seventh to win by one. After Kirsten Patterson and Lindsay Russell picked up RBI in the top of the seventh to put the visitors up one, St. Andrews used a RBI double and a steal of home to win the opener.

In the nightcap, Hannah Jackson put together a 4-for-5 day at the plate scoring three runs in the 6-2 victory. Pfeiffer opened up a 1-1 game with four in the fifth with a two-run single by Patterson and a run driven in each by Rebecca Foil and Emily Workman. Strickland would add a sac-fly in the sixth for insurance. Russell picked up the win in the circle tossing a complete game allowing two unearned runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Carson-Newman at 1:00 p.m.
