LITTLE LOSES NO-HIT BID WITH ONE OUT IN NINTH; BASEBALL ONE-HITS #12 TUSCULUM FOR 1-0 WIN GIVING PIONEERS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Freshman southpaw Keith Little (Mooresville, NC) lost his no-hit bid with one out in the top of the ninth inning while closer Craig Bolton (Shelby, NC) got the remaining two outs needed as Pfeiffer University one-hit the 12th-ranked Tusculum College 1-0 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons needed just 96 minutes to improve to 9-7 overall while handing the Pioneers their first loss of the season sending them to 15-1.

Little was nearly untouchable in his 8.1 innings of work giving up a one-out single to Lukas Graves (St. Joseph, IL) on a 3-2 pitch in the ninth. The freshman would fan six on the day, use five 1-2-3 frames, and not allow a Pioneer runner to reach third. After a walk to Alexi Colon (Vineland, NJ) put runners at first and second for Tusculum in the ninth, Bolton would get a line out to left and groundball to first to end the contest.

Pfeiffer’s run came in the bottom of the first as Jacob Yates (Blairs, VA) started the frame with a lead-off single to center. After swiping second, Yates would come around on a hard-hit, two-out single down the right-field line by Justin Harris (Albany, NY). The Falcons would try to tag on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, but TC would throw out Dalton Lindley (Siler City, NC) back at first after Matt Wade (Chapel Hill, NC) flew out to center.

Pioneer starter Zeke McGranahan (Durham, NC) suffered the tough loss pitching a fantastic eight innings surrendering just the one run on five hits while striking out six.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday and Sunday traveling to Limestone for a three-game, Conference Carolinas series with the Saints. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. while Sunday’s series-finale takes place at 1:00 p.m.
