MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University swept a pair of Conference Carolinas contests against visiting Barton College in softball action Tuesday at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Falcons scored an 8-0, five-inning win in the opener followed by a 2-1 victory in the nightcap improving to 6-12 overall, 3-1 in league play. The pair of losses sends the Bulldogs to 6-7, 1-3.
In game one, Ashlee Ellen (Jacksonville, FL) took matters into her own hands belting a two-run blast in the first following that up with a three-run bomb in the third. In the fourth, Emily Workman (Vale, NC) singled home Kirsten Patterson (Anthem, AZ) while Celia Dew (Sanford, NC) doubled home Workman. In the fifth, Pfeiffer would end it early as Shelby Brown (South Hill, VA) doubled in Mikaela Strickland (Bonifay, FL) to end game one early. Melanie Conklin (Wellington, OH) scored the win in the circle tossed a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts in the win.
In game two, Pfeiffer used a sacrifice-fly from Brown to score pinch-runner Sadie Saine (Crouse, NC) with the eventual game-winner. Earlier, Barton grabbed an early 1-0 lead on an Amber Weaver (Kenley, NC) RBI-single before the Lady Falcons squared it in the third on a Dew two-bagger to right-center.
Each team had seven hits in game two as Brown earned the win in the circle allowing just the one run with a pair of strikeouts. Emily Jordan (Goldsboro, NC) took the tough-luck loss allowing two runs with three strikeouts for Barton.
