MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Using a balanced offensive attack all afternoon, Pfeiffer University doubled up visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 18-9 in men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons improve to 4-2 with the win while the Bears plummet to 1-5.
Pfeiffer immediately put Lenoir-Rhyne behind the eight ball with three first quarter goals by Cole Paciejewski (Prince George, BRITISH COLUMBIA), Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY) and Tucker Hammock (Marietta, GA). Lenoir-Rhyne’s Ned Kaish would strike with 37 seconds remaining in the quarter to get the Bears on the board.
In the second, Luke Gillespie (Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA), Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL) and James Shepherd (St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK) would each go back-to-back-to-back after the second LRU goal to make it 6-2 just before the half. After Sam Ashton (New Market, MD) tallied with 60 seconds left, Hammock would rip through the Bears defense to score twice in an eight-second span to give Pfeiffer an 8-3 halftime lead.
After scoring five in the second quarter, the Falcons would score five more in each of the final two periods to cage the Bears. Justin Rose (Rochester, NY), Tilmon, Paciejewski, Hammock and Shepherd would all score again in an eight minute span before the Bears’ Andrew Patti (West Islip, NY) scored man-down to end the third.
In the final 15 minutes, Shepherd and Hammock would each put home their final strikes of the day while Andrew Suh (Colchester, CT) notched the final pair of goals on the day for Pfeiffer. John Remsen (Oceanside, NY) recorded two of the Bears final three goals including the match’s final tally with 12 ticks left.
Hammock led all scorers on the day with five while Shepherd and Paciejewski each scored three. Shepherd also added three assists while Paciejewski and Tilmon each had two. Gillespie recorded a game-high six groundballs in the win.
Pfeiffer will now look forward to their spring break trip to Florida beginning on Saturday at St. Leo. The trip will also include stops at Rollins and Florida Tech.
