HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Host Coker College swept a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon from Pfeiffer University at Saleeby-Stokes Field. The Cobras won the opener 4-0 while securing the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap on the sixth walk-off against the Lady Falcons. Coker takes the east division lead improving to 10-8 overall, 4-2 in league play while Pfeiffer drops to 6-14, 3-3.
Despite the Lady Falcons out-hitting Coker 7-2 in the opener, the black and gold couldn't push a single run across. The Cobras used a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice-fly in a two-runs, no-hits bottom of the first while another Pfeiffer error and bases-loaded free pass again led to the final runs for the Cobras.
Emily Workman and Andrea Wagner led off the seventh with back-to-back singles, but the Lady Falcons couldn't muster a rally in the game's final frame. Workman, along with Hannah Jackson, each had two hits in game one while three errors on defense aided Coker's offense.
In game two, each team went quickly through four frames until Coker used an RBI-groundout in their fifth before Pfeiffer grabbed a 2-1 lead in the sixth. Ashlee Ellen doubled home Celia Dew while Jackson singled home Sadie Saine. A sac-fly tied it for the Cobras in the sixth while a pair of errors on the infield led to the game-winner in the seventh.
Jackson again collected two hits in game two as Pfeiffer out-hit Coker 8-6 in the nightcap.
Pfeiffer will return home on Friday and Saturday hosting Davis & Elkins and West Liberty both starting at 2:00 p.m.
