PFEIFFER'S STUDENT-ATHLETES TO HOST 4TH-ANNUAL "DRY NIGHT" ON FRIDAY; A NIGHT OF ALCOHOL-FREE FUN

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Pfeiffer University will sponsor its fourth annual ‘Dry Night’ beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13th. “Dry Night” is an evening of substance-free activities that raises awareness about the negative impact of drinking and alcohol abuse on college campuses.‘Dry Night' also demonstrates Pfeiffer's commitment to community outreach and longstanding mission of service, while benefiting a worthy cause in the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The night's activities will include the Mr. and Ms. Pfeiffer University pageant, food and Laser Battle (A mix between laser tag and paintball).

This event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Merner Gym on the Misenheimer campus.  Cost for this event is $5 at the door to see the Mr. and Ms. PU pageant and $8 in advance for pageant, t-shirt, and food.  It will be $10 at the door for the pageant, t-shirt and food. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish, an organization that has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work.

Drinking among college students and other 18-to-24-year-olds has increased since 1998 and contributes to an estimated 1,700 alcohol-related unintentional student deaths per year, according to the latest National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism report. Annually, more than 696,000 students in the same age category are assaulted by another student who was drinking, and more than 97,000 students are victims of alcohol-related sexual assaults.

SAAC hopes to shed light on these serious statistics and situations in an inviting environment by offering an alternative to alcohol use. In three years, Dry Night has successfully raised over $3,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
