TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Pfeiffer University dropped a pair of crucial contests at North Greenville on Saturday in Conference Carolinas softball action. The Crusaders improve to 23-9 overall, 18-4 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 18-35, 7-15. Saturday marked the season finale for Pfeiffer currently on outside looking in for the league's final playoff spot.
Both teams were scoreless through four until a Sadie Saine infield single scored Rebecca Foil with the game's first run in the top of the fifth. Saine would later score on an outfield error putting the visitors up two.
The Crusaders quickly responded with four in the fifth, three unearned, before adding two more in the sixth, one unearned, for a 6-2 lead. Pfeiffer's final run came on a RBI-single from Melanie Conklin in the seventh. Saine led the Lady Falcons in game one with two of the seven hits.
In game two, Pfeiffer scored first again in the second after Saine led off with a triple and scored on Mikaela Strickland's groundout to second. Run-scoring singles by North Greenville in the second and fourth would doom the Lady Falcons. Conklin would finish game two 3-for-4 at the dish.
Pfeiffer now finds themselves in a four-team race for the final playoff spot. The Lady Falcons do host two of the three tiebreakers with pivotal games to be played Sunday-Wednesday to find out if they will make a trip to Coker for the Conference tournament next weekend.
