#4 MOUNT OLIVE WINS WEEKEND SERIES BEHIND 3-0 SHUTOUT OF BASEBALL SUNDAY

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Backed by the left arm of starting pitcher Zach Smith, #4 Mount Olive College picked up a 3-0 shutout over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Sunday to take two of three at Joe Ferebee Field. The Trojans improve to 34-7 overall, 20-3 in league play while the Falcons even to 22-22, 13-11.

Smith never really faced any danger on Sunday in his complete game blanking of the Falcons scattering seven hits. Two of those came from Dalton Lindley and Aarin Sharpe with two outs in the seventh while another was courtesy of Kevin Price's leadoff single in the ninth. Smith would add three strikeouts in the contest facing just five over the minimum.

The Mount Olive offense would back Smith with a run in the first on a Geno Escalante groundout in the first while two more came across in the third on a Nick Gaeta bases-loaded walk and Cameron Sherrer RBI-single.

Will Bynum led the Trojans with two of their five hits while Jon Gray paced Pfeiffer with two of their seven.

Pfeiffer gets back to action on Wednesday night traveling to UNC-Pembroke at 6:00 p.m.
