SALISBURY, N.C. - Pfeiffer cruised to a 21-3 win over host Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Falcons got four goals each from Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) and Haley Gourdie (Clermont, FL) to improve to 9-7 on the year. The Catawba Indians fall to 2-11.
Pfeiffer scored the first six goals to take a commanding lead in the opening 12 minutes. Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) got things started for the Falcons just 52 seconds into the game. Catawba got on the board with a tally from Kim McConnery (Welland, Ontario, CANADA) at the 16:41 mark, but the Pfeiffer closed the half with seven more goals to lead 13-1 at the break.
The Falcons held a decisive 42-13 edge in shots and doubled up Catawba 36-18 in ground balls. Pfeiffer also took 18 of the 26 draw controls. Brandi Cockerham (Mocksville, NC) recorded 11 saves for Catawba. McConnery added another goal for Catawba, while Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME) also scored.
Bonnel followed Gourdie and Melesh with three goals and added a pair of assists. Rachel Hebberd (Golden, CO) also tallied three times. Kristina Anderson (Gaithersburg, MD) handed out five assists. Jamie Alcala (Fredericksburg, VA) and Rachel McCarthy (Austin, TX) shared time in the Pfeiffer goal. Alcala stopped one shot in the first half, while McCarthy had seven saves in half number two.
