MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A golden goal by Craig Allan (Lesmahagow, SCOTLAND) just 4:39 into overtime gave visiting Mount Olive College a 1-0 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action on Thursday afternoon. The Trojans improve to 2-4 overall, 2-1 in league play while dropping the Falcons to 0-7, 0-3.
After 90 minutes of a scoreless draw, John Kwennah (Cologne, GERMANY) would take the initial shot in the 95th minute forcing Falcon keeper Zach Liles (Cumming, GA) to dive to his right making the save. Pfeiffer’s Simon Leslie (Newburgh, SCOTLAND) took the extra session’s first shot firing just wide. As the second half came to a close, Kyle Toler (Charlotte, NC) blasted a shot in the 81st minute as Mount Olive keeper Nick Bernsdorf (Charlotte, NC) made the stop. Each team would have several chances late in the second half to grab the advantage but neither cashed in.
Pfeiffer outshot Mount Olive 21-12 in the match with both teams equaling for six on target. The Falcons would also hold a slight edge in set pieces from the corner at 8-4. Bernsdorf would turn away six shots on the day picking up the win while Liles rejected five for Pfeiffer.
