MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Wingate University this weekend for the 3rd-annual Bulldog Stampede. Milligan College captured both the team and individual title in the women’s 5k, with freshman Meagan Wright winning in 19:09. Mars Hill took the team title for the men’s 8K while Wingate junior Steve Hammond placed first in 26:27.
The Lady Falcons placed sixth, led once again by freshman Alex Crouch, who earned honors by placing 15th with her 20:40. Fellow freshman Trista Byers followed, running 21:47, while freshman Cori Newton finished in 21:55. Freshman Janna Featherstone came in next for Pfeiffer, clocking 22:15. Sophomore Justine Serje, in her first race after an early-season injury, rounded out the scoring for the Lady Falcons, running 22:34. Freshman Maia Black, also returning to action from injury and running her first collegiate race, ran 24:10, with junior Nina Ubabuike finishing in 25:16.
For the men’s 8K, senior Will Oliver ran a strong 27:52, earning honors with his 12th place finish. Freshman Henry Furman ran a 29:50, with fellow freshmen Brandon Garren and Nathan Jarman close behind, running 30:00 and 30:18 respectively. Sophomore Joseph Sutlive clocked a 30:48, finishing the Falcons’ scoring. Juniors Cody Bivens (31:06), Fred Travis (33:43), and Cody Jones (34:14) rounded out the team for the day. The men’s team would conclude sixth overall.
The Falcons will next travel to McAlpine Creek Park for the UNC-Charlotte Invitational on September 28th.
