BREVARD, N.C. - Niko Andrade's penalty kick goal in the 74th minute allowed Pfeiffer University to earn a 1-1 draw with host Brevard in men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. Pfeiffer moves to 0-8-1 on the year while the Tornados slide to 1-6-2.
Late in the first half, Andrade would miss his first penalty kick attempt in the 43rd minute as Brevard keeper Jack Shaw made the rare save. With the Falcons just 90 seconds away from their first victory of the year, Brevard's Efren Escobar tallied the equalizer sending the contest into overtime.
Each team had a shot registered in the first overtime period, both sailing wide, while the Tornados Junior Montano came within inches of giving the hosts a 2-1 win clanking a shot off the crossbar in the 102nd minute. Pfeiffer would need a team save on defense as Marcelo Betcer tried to come up with the game-winner. Escobar later added another shot on goal in the 106th minute as Zach Liles came up with another crucial save for the Falcons.
Brevard held a slight 21-16 advantage in shots while both teams each fired seven on net. The Falcons held a 7-5 advantage in corners while Brevard was whistled for five offsides to Pfeiffer's four.
Pfeiffer will now return home on Homecoming Saturday hosting Erskine at 2:00 p.m.
