Coker Falls to Pfeiffer 6-3 in Women’s Tennis
Pfeiffer University women’s tennis team shook off a slow start in doubles and came back to take 5 of the 6 singles for the win. Andrea Stroup and Patti Dominguez captured the #1 doubles easily with a score of 8-3 but #2 and 3 doubles struggled and lost. Monica Kobylaryz and Sarah Ervin won an exhibition doubles match with an 8-4 score.
Singles play was much better as the Falcons won the first set in each match except at #5, which went to a tiebreaker. Juliana Reyes paced the Falcons with a 6-1,6-4 win at #4 while Samantha Thomas and Patti Dominguez both won with scores of 6-3,6-1.
Coach Mary Ann Sunbury said, "Coker is a much improved team and should win a lot of matches this year. We were fortunate to recover from being down after doubles. I felt that we played some very smart singles matches and made up for the doubles. We definitely need to start stronger in matches in order to continue winning."
Pfeiffer's record is now 6-0 overall, 1-0 CVAC. The Falcons’ next match is at home on Thursday against Livingstone at 2 pm. Friday’s Anderson match has been rescheduled to April 5.Results Doubles Stroup/Dominguez(Pfeiffer) def. Lemar/Smith(Coker) 8-3 Santos/Pace(Coker) def.
