HARVEY'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE AND KEY SECOND HALF SHOOTING FROM RHONEY AND LEMONS LEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO LEAGUE-OPENING 63-55 WIN OVER KING

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Backed by a double-double from Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) and key second half shooting from Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) and Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC), Pfeiffer University was able to finish off their second half comeback grabbing a 63-55 victory over King College in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons stay unbeaten improving to 3-0 on the year winning their league opener while the Tornado even to 1-1, 0-1.

King would see as much as a 14-point lead in the first half on 56% shooting until a Rhoney three ball started a quick 5-0 run coupled with a Harvey basket as Pfeiffer went into the locker room down just 35-27. Down eight at the break, the Lady Falcons would start the second half on a 12-4 burst as triples from Rhoney and later the go-ahead triple from Lemons brought the Lady Falcons back later grabbing a six-point, 42-36 advantage after Rhoney and Lemons struck again.

Pfeiffer would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest but King would make things close on several different occasions. Chelsea Bowling (Elizabethton, TN) cut the lead down to two on a three with 9:42 to play before Alley Sprouse (Newport, TN) and Kelly Jackson (Lynchburg, VA) did the same with jumpers three and four minutes later. After a pair of Bowling free throws made it a 55-53 game with 2:55 left, Pfeiffer put together an 8-2 run over the final minutes as Lemons and Harvey free throws with a Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) three in between iced the first league win of the season.

Rhoney would lead all scorers with 16 points on the day flirting with a triple-double adding six rebounds and six assists. Harvey followed with her 15 points and 14 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting while Lemons would conclude with 11. Sprouse led the Tornado with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field while Jackson concluded with 11.

The Lady Falcons will look to stay perfect on the 2012-2013 season hosting Lees-McRae in another Conference Carolinas matchup on Tuesday night. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m. with live stats and video being available courtesy of http://www.gofalconsports.com.
