MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Senior Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) poured in a career-high 32 points, 25 of them in the first half, to help send Pfeiffer University past visiting Erskine College 79-66 in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons would also set a new school-record with 26 assists in the victory improving to 8-1 overall, winning their fourth-straight, while moving to 3-1 in league play. The loss sends the Flying Fleet to 0-10, 0-5.
Harvey started her 12-of-16 first half shooting just 1:13 into the contest on Saturday scoring Pfeiffer’s first seven points including a long distance three. Midway through the first, Harvey again would take matters into her own hands scoring eight-straight points, 12 in a 15-point span, while Jodie Lemons (Madison NC) hit from long range to help Pfeiffer post a 28-17 lead with 5:07 before the break. Harvey and Lemons would each add four more points over the final three minutes while a Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) three aided in a 45-28 halftime lead.
Solid shooting for the Lady Falcons would continue in the second half as a Carter Williams (Harrisonburg, VA) triple gave Pfeiffer their largest lead of the day at 21, 59-38 with 14:53 to play in the second half. The Lady Falcons would maintain that healthy double-digit lead halfway through the period until Erskine’s Tori Whittenberg (Mauldin, SC) started a 7-0 run to make it a 70-59 contest after her final three of the night with 4:57 remaining. A final basket by Williams, free throws by Harvey and the last five points coming from Bridget Rothert (Germantown, MD) secured the 13-point win for the Lady Falcons.
Setting a new school-record for assists with their 26, senior Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) would lead the way with 11 on the day. Pfeiffer shot 49% in the win, 59% in the first half, while converting 17 Erskine turnovers into 23 points on the offensive side of the floor.
In addition to the career-high 32 by Harvey, the forward also added 11 rebounds to complete her double-double. Lemons would follow with 13 while Williams added 11 with eight boards. Rothert’s late run allowed her to finish with 10 on the day. Whittenberg would lead the Fleet with her 19.
