MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University drained 13 three-pointers to stay unbeaten on their home floor with an 83-54 trouncing of Coker College in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Thursday night. The victory, ninth-straight at home, pushes the Lady Falcons to 12-3 overall, 7-3 in league play while the Cobras fall to 10-7, 6-5 with the defeat.
Midway through the first half, a Carter Williams (Harrisonburg, VA) three gave Pfeiffer a 16-9 lead with 9:52 to play in a fairly close opening half. After a pair of Autumn Lau (Mt. Wolf, PA) free throws cut the Coker deficit down to seven with 5:17 remaining, the Lady Falcons would then burst out on a 21-7 run closing out the period for a 20-point halftime lead. Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) would score a dozen of those 21 points over the final five minutes while Williams added six more before the break.
Pfeiffer would follow up its 41-point first half with 42 in the second starting with another triple from Cox. A pair of Williams free throws made it a 24-point advantage with 4:43 left before the sophomore gave the Lady Falcons their largest lead with two more from the charity stripe with 2:52 remaining.
Pfeiffer shot 39% from the floor and from behind the arc place four starters in double-figures. Williams led the way with a career-high 19 with five threes while Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) followed closely behind with 18. Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) would contribute with a double-double scoring 17 to go along with her 11 rebounds while Cox concluded with 15. Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) posted a team-high seven assists aiding in the 83-point night. Pfeiffer would also dominate the rebounding category 54-37.
The Lady Falcons will now head to Converse on Saturday before getting back on the hardwood traveling down to Queens next Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Converse and 5:30 p.m. at the Grady Cole Center in downtown Charlotte.
