ASHEBORO, N.C. - Barton College used a three-run sixth inning en route to doubling up Pfeiffer University 4-2 in non-conference baseball action on Saturday night at McCrary Park. The win sends the Bulldogs to 2-3 on the year while the Falcons fall to 0-6.
Pfeiffer got on the board first in the bottom of the second as a two-out single to right by Daniel Furr kept the inning alive for Aarin Sharpe. Sharpe quickly followed with a laser into the left-center field gap for a two-out double that scored Furr from first. Barton would get on the board and tie things up in the fourth as Phillip Williams started with a single up the middle, later scoring on a one-out base hit to left by Avery Harper.
Barton added three more in the sixth as Williams once again led off with a base knock and would come around on another Harper single, this one a blooper down the right field line, to put the Bulldogs up one. After a passed ball made it 3-1, a two-out run-scoring single by Phillip Cotten would give the Bulldogs their three-run advantage.
Matt Wade would help get one of those runs back in the eighth with a leadoff double and later scoring on a double play ball hit into by Cole McGraw with nobody out. The relay throw to first appeared to pull Seth Breasseale off the bag which would have kept the inning and rally alive.
Pfeiffer returns home to Joe Ferebee Field on Tuesday to battle Brevard at 2:00 p.m.
