MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Host Pfeiffer University took a pair of victories over Catawba College in non-conference tennis action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcon men rolled 8-1 while the Lady Falcons secured a 6-3 win at the Knapp Tennis Center. The men improve to 3-2 overall winning their third-straight while the ladies move to 3-3.
Pfeiffer took a 2-1 lead after doubles before sweeping all six singles matches. Ben Hunter and Loic Minery won a tight 8-6 battle at #1 doubles while Sebastian Wernecke and Ethan Lyon cruised 8-2 at #3. In singles, all six Falcons won in straight-sets as Luis Villalta and Lyon needed tiebreakers in the second-set to hold on for victory.
On the ladies side, Pfeiffer swept all three doubles matches led by an 8-2 win by Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza at number one. Hannah Watson and Chelsi Haefele at #2 and Briana Oliver and Melinda Athay at #3 each needed narrow 8-6 victories to put Pfeiffer up 3-0.
In singles, Lindsay, Watson and Mendoza would all win in straight-sets and Lindsay went 7-5, 7-5; Watson three and two while Mendoza rolled four and three.
The Pfeiffer men will play again on Friday heading to Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte before joining the Lady Falcons in the 2013 Conference Carolinas opener at Erskine on Saturday.
