WINGATE, N.C. - For the second-straight doubleheader and third time this season, Pfeiffer University rebounded for a game one loss to pick up a game two victory this time splitting with host Wingate on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Falcons slide to 6-8 overall while the Bulldogs move to 12-5-1.
Game one became the Alexis Burrell story as the shortstop belted a three-run homer in the first and added a two-run shot in the third. Khristin Isley and Sam Jarmusch picked up the only two hits for the Lady Falcons in the opening contest.
Tied 4-4 and needing extra innings, Isley began the inning on second base using the international tiebreaker rule. Shelby Brown would sacrifice Isley to third before Jaclyn Boever lifted a sacrifice fly to center scoring Isley. In Wingate's seventh, after a sacrifice bunt moved the tying run to third, reliever Jessica Griffin would in get a groundball and pop up to short to end the contest.
Celia Dew and Deanna Crayton each recorded a pair of hits in the game two win. Griffin pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn the win in relief. Pfeiffer took advantage of three Wingate errors to score the split.
Pfeiffer will get back to action on Tuesday afternoon hosting Barton at 1:30 p.m. in the 2013 Conference Carolinas opener. Live stats will be available courtesy of http://www.gofalconsports.com.
