RESULTS VS. LEES MCRAE (2009-02-05 00:00:00)

Misenheimer, NC -- Pfeiffer senior Mike Davidson (Concord, NC) came off the bench to score 17 second half points to lead Pfeiffer to a 103-83 win over Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae Thursday night in Merner Gym. This win elevates Pfeiffer’s conference record to 9-4. The Falcons are 12-8 overall. The Bobcats of Lees-McRae are 1-22 overall, 1-12 in conference play.
The see-saw battle of a game that was resheduled from Wednesday due to inclement weather was back and forth throughout the first half. Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) made a three-point shot off a Robert McGriff (Lancaster, SC) drive to complete a 5-5 effort from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes to give Pfeiffer an 11 point halftime lead, 51-40. The Falcons made 15 three-pointers in the game and won the rebounding 48-35.
Davidson, who did not enter the game until there were 19 minutes to go, gave Pfeiffer an incredible lift going 5-9 from the 3-point line and scoring his 17 points in just over 12 minutes of playing time. Pettiway, who finished 6-9 from three, had 18 points and Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) was again a major impact player for the Falcons with 17 points, going 7-10 from the field. McGriff had 11 points, six assists and four rebounds and Derrick Truesdale (Waxhaw, NC) had a perfect shooting night going 3-3 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line to score 11. Danny Cummins (Charlotte, NC) had six assists and Athalie Rivera (Baltimore, MD) led Pfeiffer in rebounding with nine.
"Mike Davidson was the difference for us tonight," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "We did a lot of things well but could not get anything going until Mike entered the game. He gave us an inspirational lift and our team really rallied around him. Mike has worked hard and had a great practice on Wednesday and it was so nice to see that hard work pay off in a game. Because of Mike's play we were able to stretch a very tight game into a 28 point second half lead. Jeff, Robert and Chris Woods have really started playing consistent basketball and they are changing our team. These three are competing on a different level than they have all year and our team is really improving because of their efforts. Athalie gives us solid rebounding. Truesdale was great on the offensive attack and Danny really got the ball to people in scoring position tonight. We are a very good team when we rebound the basketball and we did that again tonight."
The Bobcats shot 42.4 percent from the field, going 28-for-66. They were 6-for-13 from the arc totally 46.2 percent. Lees-McRae was led by Aaron Woodacre (Piney Flats, TN) with 19 points. Ochigbo Ameh (Lagos, Nigeria) added 18 and brought down seven rebounds. Stephen Haymer (Fayetteville, NC) and Sam Youse (Winston-Salem, NC) rounded out double digit scoring with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Pfeiffer has won four out of their last five. The Falcons rest this weekend and travel to first place Mt. Olive on Monday.
