GAME ONE WALK-OFF AND GAME TWO RALLY SENDS FALCON BASEBALL TO 8-7, 4-3 SATURDAY SWEEP OVER LIMESTONE

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Host Pfeiffer University needed a pair of come-from-behind wins, including a game one walk-off, to defeat Limestone College 8-7 and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The pair of victories at Joe Ferebee Field send the Falcons to 8-14 overall, 4-2 in league play while dropping the Saints to 12-8, 3-4.

A leadoff walk by Jacob Yates and RBI-double from Jon Gray immediately got the Falcons on the board early in the first frame of game one until Limestone responded with four in their second to take a three-run lead. Avi Ahlzadeh would pick up a two-run single to put the Saints on top 2-1 before RBI-doubles from Michael Hugh and KJ McAllister gave the visitors a 4-1 advantage.

Pfeiffer would chip away and tie things up in the third as Aarin Sharpe belted a three-run shot to left after Yates walked and Cole McGraw reached on a two-out hit-by-pitch. The Falcons would regain to two-run lead at 6-4 in the fourth using a two-run single from Gray before Limestone came back with two in the seventh to setup a dramatic ninth.

In the ninth, a Pfeiffer error and two-out double by Cooper Gunter gave the Saints a 7-6 lead, three outs away from a game one win. In the Pfeiffer ninth, Kevin Price would start the rally with a single and move to third on a Yates double. After a McGraw sacrifice fly plated Price with the tying run, Sharpe delivered once again beating out an infield single to short that allowed Yates to score with the game-winner.

Sharpe would end game one 2-for-5 with his three-run homer and walk-off single racking up four RBI while Gray brought home three with his 2-for-4 game one. Jeff Barkley picked up the win in relief of Tyler Ring as Ring fanned eight over his eight innings of work in a no-decision. McAllister and Balderman would each pick up three hits for Limestone in the opener.

Balderman would put the Saints on the board first in game two with a three-run blast of his own to break up a quiet first couple of innings. Limestone starter Cameron Ward would keep the Pfeiffer bats silenced through five until the Falcons managed all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Gray doubled to start the frame while McGraw singled and Sharpe singled to get the Falcons on the board down 3-1. After a Johnny Brown, Jr. double would bring home McGraw cutting the lead down to one, Kyle Hackney would then deliver the clutch two-out, two-run single that gave Pfeiffer its 4-3 lead.

Limestone would mount a rally in the seventh as pinch-hitter Julian Bridges reached with a one-out single and moved to third on another McAllister base hit. Pfeiffer starter Bryan Tuttle would then finish off his complete game getting a 5-4-3 game-ending double play ball out of Hugh to end game two.

Tuttle would pick up the win allowing three unearned runs on five hits while fanning 11 Saints. Gray and Brown, Jr. would lead the offense in the nightcap each picking up a pair of hits.

Pfeiffer will look to complete its first three-game sweep of the season in the finale at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
