BROPHY'S 17 KILLS LEAD MEN'S VOLLEYBALL IN 3-0 SWEEP OF COKER

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) put down a match-high 17 kills hitting .583 during a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) sweep of visiting Coker College in NCAA I Conference Carolinas men’s volleyball action on Wednesday night. The Falcons improve to 12-6 overall, 11-3 in league play while sending the Cobras to 5-11, 3-8.

Kyle Landrigan (Delmar, NY) would get the Falcons out to an early 8-6 lead with an ace and kill before Brophy recorded his second kill of the night to push the lead to 11-9. Coker errors and a kill from Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) would extend the first set lead to 15-11 while four final kills in the opening set by Brophy would give the Falcons a 25-16 win.

In the middle set, a pair of David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) aces and another kill from Brophy would burst the Falcons out to a 5-0 lead until a kill by Fabio Diniz (Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) helped the hosts double up the Cobras 14-7. Coker would get as close as 22-19 late using three Falcon errors in a four-play span until Brophy put down two more kills to end the second set 25-21.

The first half of set three would go back and forth until Brophy continued his tear giving Pfeiffer a 13-12 lead. Blake Dowdle (Farmington, NY) would push the lead to three just two points later while Diniz and Brophy provided the final bit of separation as Pfeiffer held on 25-21 to sweep Coker 3-0.

Pfeiffer would hit .375 in the match led by Brophy’s 17 kills and .583 hitting percentage. Diniz concluded with eight kills in nine attempts hitting .889 while Edelman would wrap up his night hitting .417 with seven kills. Specian would pick up 33 helpers in the win while Mark Hess (Lebanon, PA) added six digs. Jared Geizer (Montville, OH) would pace the Cobras with nine kills.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday playing the final regular season home game of 2013 hosting NJIT at 7:00 p.m. Friday night will mark senior night for six Falcons to be recognized prior to first serve. Live stats/video will be available courtesy of http://www.gofalconsports.com.
