WILSON, N.C. - Pfeiffer University completed a Conference Carolinas weekend sweep of Barton on Sunday afternoon claiming a 5-3 victory at Nixon Field. Late, timely hitting and solid pitching once again move the Falcons to 16-24 overall, 10-6 in league play while the Bulldogs slide to 15-19, 6-12.
Tied at three entering the eighth, Pfeiffer's Izzy Perez blasted a solo shot to left on the second pitch of the inning to put the visitors up 4-3. In the ninth, Jacob Yates would begin the frame with a single to right and later swipe second. After a Barton pitching change, Yates would advance to third on another stolen base and score as the ensuing throw ended up down the left-field line.
Pfeiffer would get on the board initially in the fourth on a bunt single by Kyle Hackney before Barton scored two in their half of the inning to take a one-run lead. A Cole McGraw homer in the fifth tied it at 2-2 before a Kevin Price single to right put the Falcons up 3-2. Barton would add their third and final unearned run in the seventh to setup the comeback for Pfeiffer in the eighth and ninth.
McGraw would finish the day 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored while Perez and Hackney each gathered two hits. Ethan Greene would pick up the win in relief of Josh Branch who through the first six innings with a pair of unearned runs and two strikeouts. Greene would toss the seventh while Jeff Barkley picked up his sixth save of the season facing Barton's final five batters in an inning and two-thirds fanning two.
Pfeiffer gets back to action on Tuesday night traveling to UNC Pembroke to battle Armstrong Atlantic in non-conference action before hosting King over the weekend in Conference Carolinas action.
