MISENHEIMER, N.C. - A three-run homer in the top of the fifth by Josh Huffman powered visiting King to a 6-3 victory over Pfeiffer University in the rubber game of a three-game Conference Carolinas baseball series on Sunday afternoon. The Tornado move to 27-16 overall with the victory, 12-9 in conference play, while dropping the Falcons to 18-26, 11-8.
Pfeiffer would get on the board first with a RBI single from Aarin Sharpe in the opening frame until King responded with a Jose Sola run-scoring double in the second. Tied at 1-1 heading into the fifth, Huffman would then square up on his three-run blast to give King a 4-1 advantage. After a sacrifice fly made it 5-1 in the seventh, Matt Wade would make it 5-2 scoring on a wild pitch in the Falcon seventh. Each team would trade final runs in the ninth as Izzy Perez would double home Sharpe for Pfeiffer's final run in the ninth. Sharpe, along with Huffman of King, would each collect three hits on the day.
Tuesday's contest with Brevard has already been canceled so Pfeiffer will now look ahead to next weekend's series with nationally-ranked Mount Olive. Friday's series-opener will begin at 3:00 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader, set with a pregame jersey retirement cermony for longtime coach Joe Ferebee, will begin at 12:00 p.m. Live stats for all three games will be available courtesy of http://www.gofalconsports.com.
