BASEBALL ENDS 2013 REGULAR SEASON WITH 10-9 LOSS TO #10 UNC PEMBROKE

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Visiting UNC Pembroke would take advantage of four errors by Pfeiffer University claiming a 10-9 victory in the 2013 regular season finale on Tuesday afternoon. The 10th-ranked Braves improve to 33-14 with the victory while the Falcons head into the Conference tournament this weekend after an 18-30 regular season.

Daniel Fraga wasted no time in getting the Braves on the board three pitches into the game lifted a solo shot to right for a 1-0 lead. The Falcons would come right back to score a pair in their first to grab a 2-1 lead. Pfeiffer began the frame with four-straight singles as Kyle Hackeny scored the tying run on a wild pitch before Izzy Perez drove in Jon Gray with his base hit to right.

UNCP scored the equalizer in the fourth as Jordan Edgerton started the frame with a single to left before moving to second on a stolen base. After sliding to third on a Brett Huffman groundout to second, Edgerton would later score the tying run on a wild pitch for a 2-2 game.

Pfeiffer would quickly regain the one-run advantage after Tyler Summers belted another solo blast to left-center as the Falcons took a 3-2 lead into the fifth. UNCP would storm back to score four in the fifth grabbing a 6-3 lead halfway through Tuesday's contest.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, Dalton Knight sent a groundball to short that would result in two errors on the play, three runs scoring and Knight being thrown out trying to score on the throwing error all apart of the same play. Fraga would pick up the first RBI in the inning taking a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to temporarily tie the game at 3-3. UNCP pushed the lead to four using a Drew Alford RBI single in the sixth.

Pfeiffer came back to use the long ball in their half of the sixth to cut the lead down to one at 7-6. All with two outs, Summers started by connecting for his second homer of the day ripping a two-run shot to the opposite field in right-center. On the very next pitch, Kevin Price crushed his solo homer in almost the same identical spot as Summers and the Falcons all of a sudden found themselves down by just one.

The Braves would do more two-out damage in the seventh scoring three to extended the lead back at to four. Drew Cole picked up a RBI with a ground rule double to left while Max Gagnon singled him in. The other run of the inning was tallied on Pfeiffer's fourth error of the game.

The Falcons again try to chip away late with single runs in the seventh and eighth beginning with Aarin Sharpe's two-out double out to left and Zac Chilton's RBI double in the eighth. In the ninth, Summers would make it a one-run game scoring Sharpe with his single back up the middle. Pfeiffer would out-hit UNCP 16-11 but the Braves were able to take advantage of the four Pfeiffer errors en route to the one-run win.

Pfeiffer would benefit from from Summers' pair of homers and three RBI on Tuesday while Sharpe and Summers each picked up three hits in their four plate appearances.

Pfeiffer will now look towards their opening game in the 2013 Conference Carolinas tournament beginning Thursday afternoon in Burlington.
