Alberta, Canada – Pfeiffer University men’s lacrosse midfielder Cole Sheen is representing the Falcons in the Minto Cup, Canada’s national indoor tournament. Sheen’s Okotoks Raiders won a best-of-seven series against the Calgary Mountaineers to advance to the Championship which runs from August 16-26.
Sheen scored two goals in the first six games of the series against Calgary, but saved his best performance for game seven. With his team down 1-0 early, Sheen responded with a natural hat trick in less than seven minutes and the Raiders never looked back. Sheen was acquired in a late season trade by the Raiders, who were making a push to win the Junior A Box Lacrosse Championship. By advancing to the National Minto Cup, Sheen will be representing his province for the third consecutive year.
Okotoks will compete in a round-robin from Aug. 17-19 with the top two teams competing in a best-of-five series from Aug. 22-26. The other three teams are Coquitlam, New Westminster, and Whitby. Alberta has never won a Minto Cup.
Sheen competed in all 17 contests for the Falcons a season ago and was sixth on the team with 23 points and 16 goals. He tied for the team lead in most man up goals with five for Pfeiffer, who went 13-4 on the season and 5-1 in Conference Carolinas play and advanced to the Conference Tournament Championship game.
Okotoks will compete against Coquitlam on August 17 in Queens Park Arena in New Westminster, BC.
