CLINTON, S.C. - The Pfeiffer University men’s soccer team traveled to Division I foe Presbyterian and played the Blue Hose to a 1-1 draw in exhibition play. Dammy Balogun scored in the 47th minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead that they would hold until Presbyterian connected on the tying goal with only 4:22 left in regulation.
The teams played a scoreless first half at Martin Stadium as the Falcons out shot Presbyterian 4-3. Balogun took a feed from Aldo Ramirez to beat Tyler Beadle just under two minutes into the second half. Pfeiffer held the lead for just under 40 minutes until Matthew McManis beat keeper Nicholas Dulac to knot the score at one.
The result was encouraging for first year head coach Bob Reasso.
"It was a great workout for our guys today in very humid conditions and we got the chance to play a lot of players,” said Reasso. “Each team's keepers played very well, but I believe we had the better chances and could have won the game. We are very proud of our guys, they were able to translate what we've worked on in practice into quality play on the field. This gives us something to build on".
Dulac made four stops in the contest and the Blue Hose keepers combined to made five saves for Presbyterian. The Falcons held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Falcons continue their pre-season slate when they travel to Greensboro on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
