MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer Head Coach Jeremy Currier and Athletic Director/VP for Athletics Bob Reasso have announced the 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule. The Falcons will play seven games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13.
The season kicks off with a trip to Salisbury, N.C. to compete in the Catawba Classic hosted by Catawba College. On Nov. 8, Pfeiffer’s season begins with a 6:00 p.m. game against Lenoir-Rhyne, who finished last season with an 18-9 record. The following afternoon, the Falcons will take on the host Indians at 4:00 p.m.
The non-conference portion of the schedule also includes trips to Mars Hill as well as a visit to Tampa, FL to compete in the University of Tampa Christmas Classic on Dec. 21-22, where the Falcons will take on Eckerd College and the host Spartans. Eckerd finished the season with a 20-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Falcons will host St. Augustine’s and Bluefield St. in non-conference action in Merner Gym.
Conference Carolinas action will be daunting for the young Falcons as six games will be played against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. Barton, Limestone and Belmont Abbey all made the Division II NCAA Tournament in 2012-13 with the Crusaders being crowned league champs. The league was very competitive last season, with eight teams finishing .500 or better in conference play.
“This is as demanding of a schedule as we have had here,” said Currier. “We are playing some of the top teams in the region but I am excited about the direction the program is heading. I am looking forward to seeing how we respond to the challenge.”
The Falcons will play 15 road games this year, and only 11 games at home. In total, Pfeiffer will play 11 teams who posted a winning record last year and four teams who won 20 or more games.
