GAFFNEY, SC – The Pfeiffer University men’s soccer team (2-4-1, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) dropped a 3-0 decision on the road against Limestone (4-1, 1-0) on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. Jorge Mackenna had a goal and an assist in the win and Benjamin Morande netted his seventh score of the season.
In the 11th minute, Mackenna took a cross from Calvin Bond and headed it in from the left wing for the Saints first score of the afternoon. The rest of the half was scoreless with Limestone holding a 14-8 advantage in shots.
Morande added his score just over eight minutes into the second half. Sam Orritt sent a cross behind the defense to Morande, who beat Pfeiffer’s freshman keeper Nicolas Dulac. Jack Bailey added the Saints third goal in the 78th minute to secure the win.
The Falcons had a couple chances to cut into the deficit but were a bit unlucky.
“Our kids played very hard,” said Coach Bob Reasso. “Limestone is a very good team. We had some chances to close the gap, but we hit the post twice. We played six of our last seven on the road, which is tough, but now we get a chance to play some games at home.”
Limestone held a 22-13 lead in shots and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kyle Karagitz made two saves in the shutout and Dulac finished with five stops.
The Falcons return to action on Sept. 28 when they host Belmont Abbey on Homecoming weekend at Pfeiffer. The match is slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff. After the long road swing to start the season, Pfeiffer will play six of its next eight contests at NE Lefko Field.
