WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Fueled by strong play from middle hitters Kelsey Blauser and Kelly Lancellot, the Pfeiffer University women’s volleyball team (3-9) picked up a road victory against Winston Salem St (6-5).The Lady Falcons dropped the opening match, but then responded to win three straight and come away with the victory.
The Lady Falcons used a balanced attack as four players recorded at least seven kills, led by nine each from Blauser and Milana Mervosh. Blauser finished the match with a .562 hitting percentage and didn’t record an error on the night. Lancellot had eight kills and hit .333 on the evening. Brianna Jones added seven kills in the victory. Setters Emily Wall and Haley Denny combined for 35 assists.
Pfeiffer had 12 service aces as a team, led by six from Blauser and four from Mervosh. Defensively, Denny paced the team with 15 digs and Blauser added five blocks.
Pfeiffer hit .153 as a team and Winston-Salem St. had a .057 hitting percentage. In the second set, Pfeiffer hit .290 as a team and recorded only two hitting errors.
“We bounced back well after losing the first set tonight,” said Head Coach Paul Lawson. “I am glad we came away with the victory tonight. It was a good effort all around.”
The Lady Falcons are right back in action tomorrow night with a home match against conference foe Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m.
