DUE WEST, S.C. - The Pfeiffer women's soccer team (10-6, 6-3 CC) came away with a dominant 6-1 victory over Erskine (1-13, 1-6) on Saturday afternoon. The win was the 10th of the season for the Lady Falcons, the eighth time in the last nine seasons that they have won double-digit games.
Miracle Campbell scored twice and added an assist for Pfeiffer who is 6-1 in their last seven matches. The win also secures a home playoff match for Pfeiffer, as they are guaranteed to finish in the top four of the conference.
Pfeiffer exploded with four second half goals to break the game open as five different players scored. Katlyn Stevens, Hannah Hill, Madeline Gadd and Kaitlin Sampson all added a goal in the win.
The Lady Falcons took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Sampson scored off a free kick in the 37th minute, and Stevens struck just 28 seconds before the end of the half. Natalie Marsh played the first half in net and was credited with the win, despite not facing a shot. Pfeiffer held an 11-0 lead in shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
The second half barrage featured four goals in a 13:51 stretch, including Campbell scoring twice in 1:17. Macy Rutledge fed Hill who scored the first goal of the second stanza, in the 69th minute. After Campbell's flurry, Erskine fired their first shot of the contest at the 81:12 mark. Katherine Coleman's shot beat Kate Halligan to spoil Pfeiffer's shutout bid. Less than a minute later Pfeiffer answered, as Gadd took a cross from Campbell and put home the final goal of the match.
On the afternoon, Pfeiffer dominated in every statistical category. The Lady Falcons held a 21-1 advantage in shots, 8-1 lead in corners, and put 12 more shots on goal than the Flying Fleet.
Jesse Gaughan made seven saves in net for Erskine but couldn't stop Pfeiffer from improving to 7-2 in road matches on the year.
This was the last conference match of the season as Pfeiffer wraps up regular season play on Wednesday afternoon when they host Catawba at 3 p.m.
