MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Aaliyah Jackson scored two goals as the Pfeiffer women’s soccer team (11-6) defeated Catawba (9-7-1) 3-2 on a warm Wednesday afternoon. Macy Rutledge added her second goal of the season in the victory.

Each team fired eight shots in the contest, with Pfeiffer putting six on goal. The Indians mustered four shots on goal and the Lady Falcons held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Kate Halligan and Natalie Marsh split the contest in net, with each allowing one goal and making one save. Bethany Davis fell to 4-4-1 on the season as she made three stops.

Jackson got the scoring started in the 36th minute as Katlyn Stevens’ long pass ahead looked to be corralled by Davis. However, Jackson’s aggressive play and hustle were rewarded as the ball came free and she put it into the open net.

The Indians responded less than four minutes later with the equalizer as Juliana Conte took a cross from Sophie Waller and scored for about 30 yards out. Her shot just went over the fingertips of starting keeper Halligan.

Jackson scored the eventual game winner in the 58th minute as Kayla Rodriguez sent a perfectly placed cross and Jackson put it in the bottom corner of the net.

Rutledge tacked on a much needed insurance goal in the 82nd minute as Hannah Hill was credited with the helper.

Catawba was awarded a penalty kick in the 85th minute as Pfeiffer hauled down a Catawba player in the box. Anna Toole put the shot home to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Lady Falcons would hold on down the stretch and came away with the victory in their regular season finale.

The Lady Falcons are back in action on Monday afternoon when they host the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals. The match will take place at N.E. Lefko Field and the opponent and time will be determined on Saturday evening.
