ST. CHARLES, M.O. - Behind their best team offensive performance yet, the Pfeiffer University men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the young 2014 season. The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Falcons and improves Pfeiffer's record to 1-3 thus far. McKendree falls to 1-8 with the loss. Contributing to Pfeiffer's stellar offensive performance were four Falcons knocking down double-figure numbers in the kill column.
The Falcons wasted no time jumping out to a quick 7-3 lead in game one of the match behind seven straight serves from sophomore setter Harrison Lutz. Leading all players in the assist column, Lutz put up 46 helpers, just one shy of his season-high. Pfeiffer dominated games one and two by scores of 25-21 and 25-13 respectively. In the first game the Falcons hit .500 as a team and knocked down 19 kills, only slipping slightly in game two putting up a .471 hitting percentage.
Pfeiffer cooled off in game three, only hitting .143 as a unit and dropping the game to McKendree by a score of 25-19. The Falcons would answer in game four, taking the game 25-20 and the match 3-1. Pfeiffer posted a stellar offensive showing in the fourth frame, putting up a .667 hitting percentage and 17 kills as a team.
On the defensive side of the ball the Falcons put up 6.5 blocks as a team and freshman Aaron Dossantos led all players with ten digs. Junior Kyle Landrigan led all Pfeiffer players with 13 kills, followed by sophomore Sonny Hirini who had 12, sophomore Fabio Diniz who added 11, and sophomore Wyatt Hamilton who chipped in 10 kills.
Earlier in the day the Falcons dropped a 3-1 decision to host Lindenwood, three games to one. Pfeiffer was led by Hirini who put up 16 kills in that match. Lindenwood improved to 5-2 with the win.
The Falcons return to action on February 4th when they take on conference foe Barton. The action starts at 7:00 pm inside Merner Gym.
