BELMONT, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University men's volleyball team evened their record to .500 on Wednesday night, defeating Belmont Abbey 3-1 in a Conference Carolinas showdown. The win is the third-straight for the Falcons, evens the their season record to 3-3 and improves their conference record to 2-1. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Pfeiffer started off their road trip to Belmont easily defeating the Crusaders 25-16 in game one of the match. Game two would be a little more on the interesting side featuring a whopping 23 ties and ten lead changes. With the score tied at 30 apiece, the Falcons got clutch kills from junior Kyle Landrigan and sophomore Sonny Hirini to capture game two by a score of 32-30. Hirini has been on a tear thus far, racking up double-figure kills in every single game this season. He led all players in the match with 15 total kills and one dig shy of a double-double.
The Falcons slipped up a bit in the third frame, falling to the Crusaders 25-16. Pfeiffer wouldn't stay down for long though, taking game four from the home team 25-16, and ultimately the match.
Landrigan and sophomore Fabio Diniz also played major roles for the Falcons this evening, knocking down 12 and 14 kills respectively. Junior David Specian chipped in a game-high 49 assists, and sophomore Kevin Ecklund contributed with 13 total digs.
The Falcons look to extend their win streak to four when they travel to Loretto, PA for the first leg of a non-conference road-swing. Pfeiffer takes on Saint Francis on February 7th with the match slated to begin at 7 p.m.
